The opposition in the Chamber of Deputies described Tuesday’s approval of six new loans totaling US$623,508,568.00 in a single reading with their respective favorable reports, agreements proposed to the National Congress by the Executive Branch, as a “festival of borrowing.”
The president of the Chamber of Deputies, Alfredo Pacheco, assumed a peacemaking role in the situation that angered the congressmen. The president of the deputies stated that this was not the only occasion on which such loans had been approved, but that this had happened on other occasions as well.
Heriberto Aracena, a deputy from the Fuerza del Pueblo party, revealed that this government’s loans total more than US$30 billion, which is why he believes that the people will hold it accountable.
