The Ministry of Labor announces the dates of the holidays for the year 2023, in compliance with Law 139-97, which establishes the transfer of holidays. Recently, the 2nd was declared a non-working day by a decree issued by the president.
Law No. 139-97, dated June 19, 1997, which moves holidays falling on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday to the following Monday, was published in Official Gazette No. 9957 on June 25, 1997, and took effect on the 27th of the same month and year. Therefore, in accordance with our legislation, it must be implemented in all establishments across the country.
Consequently, holidays will be observed as follows:
Sunday, January 1 (New Year’s Day): No change.
Friday, January 6 (Three Kings’ Day): Worked and moved to Monday, January 9.
Saturday, January 21 (Day of Our Lady of Altagracia): No change.
Thursday, January 26 (Juan Pablo Duarte’s Birthday): Worked and moved to Monday, January 30.
Monday, February 27 (National Independence Day): Fixed, no change.
Friday, April 7 (Good Friday, religious observance of Jesus Christ’s death): Fixed, no change.
Monday, May 1 (Labor Day): No change.
Thursday, June 8 (Corpus Christi religious holiday): No change.
Wednesday, August 16 (Restoration Day): Under Article 35 of the Constitution and Supreme Court of Justice Ruling No. 14 of February 20, 2008, no change.
Sunday, September 24 (Day of Our Lady of Mercy) and Monday, November 6 (Constitution Day): Observed on their actual dates.
Monday, December 25 (Christmas Day): No change.
