Several specialists in maritime affairs and international law have raised doubts about the agreement reached between the Dominican Republic and the Kingdom of the Netherlands regarding Maritime Delimitation.
This pact, signed in June 2021 by the Dominican Minister of Foreign Affairs, Roberto Álvarez, and the Ambassador of the Netherlands to the country, Annemieke Verrijp, established the maritime borders in the Caribbean between the Dominican Republic and the Dutch Lesser Antilles, which include Aruba, Curaçao, Sint Maarten, Bonaire, Sint Eustatius, and Saba.
Domingo Ramírez, José Ricardo Taveras, Pelegrín Castillo, and academic Milcar Demetrio Carrasco are of the opinion that this agreement harms the Dominican Republic due to the deficiencies it presents and, therefore, request that it undergo a thorough review.
